CFSD students
Announcements
Last week’s attendance rate was 93%. Seniors led the way with 94%, followed by the Juniors with 93%, the Freshmen and Sophomores with 92%. That is 2% below our weekly goal, so let's work together to get back to 95% this week! Families, remember you can check your child's attendance on Home Access Center (HAC).

Students, please remember to get your parking permit. Disciplinary actions for vehicles parked on campus without a permit began Monday, September 16. If you are missing any of your forms for Mrs. Thrower or Mrs. Bivens, please get those ASAP.

Students who would like to join FBLA, as well as attend the fall Conference: please have your dues paid by the deadline on the information sheet. Please see Ms. Clary in Room 310 on the English Hallway to pay your dues.

Tuesday, September 17, is the first blood drive of the year. If you want to donate please see Mrs. H. James in Room 115. If you plan to donate, please eat a good breakfast in the morning. You cannot donate if you do not eat.

1st Quarter Progress Reports will go home on Thursday, September 19. Students, please make sure you have your work turned in! Families, remember you can monitor your child's grades and attendance using HAC.

CFHS is hosting a Faculty vs. Students Basketball game on Friday, September 20, as a Homecoming fundraiser during 5th period (12:43 PM). Entry fee is $2. The CFHS Homecoming Court will be announced at this event.
The Jostens rep will meet with Seniors and Juniors on Monday, September 30 in the Little Theatre. Seniors will be meeting at 10 am with the rep. Juniors will be meeting with the rep during Cardinal Academy. The rep will be back on October 4 to collect orders from 11 AM to 12:45 PM in the CFHS Library.

The South Central College and Career Fair at SAU Tech is on October 15.  All seniors will have the opportunity to attend this event.

Juniors and Sophomores: The PSAT/NMSQT will be offered to interested students on Wednesday, October 16 at the CFHS Library starting at 8AM. The PSAT/NMSQT measures skills important for college success and helps students continue planning for the future. Each year millions of students take the PSAT/NMSQT test to enter scholarship competitions, prepare for the SAT, and gain access to valuable college and career planning resources. See Mrs. Wooten or Mrs. Richardson in the counseling center if you are interested. The cost is $19.

The South Central Service Cooperative in Camden is hosting an ACT Prep on October 24 from 9AM to 2PM. They will have a break-out for first-time test takers and students who are trying to increase their scores. A pizza lunch will be provided, but students may also bring their lunches. See Mrs. Tavitha Wooten for the Google Link to register.

Juniors and Seniors, the ASVAB test is scheduled for November 5, 2024 at 8:00 AM in the Little Theatre at CFHS. If you’re interested in taking this exam, sign-up in your English class. The ASVAB must be taken if you plan to go into the military.

Attendance Matters
Attendance matters
At Camden Fairview, we believe that #AttendanceMatters and that absences are lost opportunities to learn in the classroom. Let's start the year off right - at school every day possible! Some absences are unavoidable, but it’s important that students are at school from bell-to-bell as often as possible.

Regular attendance is often an indicator of higher academic performance. Students who are at #SchoolEveryDay also do better academically in middle school and are more likely to graduate high school.

Update regarding yesterday’s bus incident

Posted Date: 9/05/24 (12:30 PM)

Update regarding yesterday’s bus incident:

The bus incident occurred at approximately 2:48PM on September 4. CFSD administrators learned of the incident at approximately 3:15PM, and we immediately began investigating. Student safety is always our top priority, and we have conducted a thorough review of yesterday’s incident to ensure we are doing all we can to keep students safe. Based on our investigation, we believe that the incident was caused by a bus striking a small object or curb as it turned at Grinstead and Adams Streets. A review of the bus’s video camera footage did not show any apparent injuries to any of the students on the bus.

There is minor damage to the rear passenger side of the bus. The video footage confirms that bus passengers experienced a bounce consistent with striking a curb but did not fall from their seats or hit the windows or ceiling.

When questioned by CFSD about the incident, the bus driver stated that he believed he hit a curb, and the video footage confirms that he continued the route as usual. A regular bus stop is located very near the incident location. A group of students exited the bus at the bus stop, and the bus resumed its route.

CFSD personnel spoke with family members of several students from the bus who chose to have their children evaluated at OCMC. We have spoken with other families today to answer questions and address the concerns those families are understandably feeling after hearing news of an incident on their child’s bus. We also know that information can take on a life of its own as it travels through the community. Our goal is to ensure proper safety procedures were followed and to provide accurate information in a timely manner to families and our community.

Thank you.

Update from CFSD.

Posted Date: 9/04/24 (5:57 PM)

Good evening. We are investigating the incident that happened this afternoon near the intersection of Grinstead and Adams involving a Camden Fairview school bus. From the information we have gathered so far, all students are now with their families and there is minor damage to the bus. The safety of our students is our top priority. We are cooperating with local law enforcement and will continue conducting our own district investigation. Thank you.

Attendance Matters! Let's Show Up Together This School Year.

Tardies. After giving students time to learn the building and their class locations, we have started counting tardies. Please encourage your child to be mindful of being on time in the mornings and getting to class on time every period.

Absences. This year, we want to create a stronger partnership with families as we work together to monitor attendance. CFSD is using ParentSquare’s attendance notification feature. This feature allows us to automatically alert parents/guardians when their child is absent. Families will receive a student-specific notification at the end of each day when a student is absent. Our goal is to make sure you are aware of your child's absences, and the notice will include a contact number if you have any questions or concerns about an absence.

Important reminders for all CFSD events
All students are expected to be on their best behavior and follow all school policies, including the dress code, while attending school events. Students will be banned from after school activities if they are involved in any fights, disrespectful towards administration or any school personnel, or if any prohibited items are found on them or in their vehicles during an event.

6-12 grade students will have 20 minutes after school activities end to leave campus. Students should notify parents ahead of time to let them know what time the activity will end. Announcements are made prior to the activity ending to remind students to contact parents.

We appreciate your support and look forward to cheering on all Cardinal student-athletes together!
